Evolving Trends of Remote Working
The future of remote working is very much in the balance at the moment. Will businesses fully return to working from the office, or will there be a more flexible option offered for employees? Even before the pandemic hit there was a surge in the popularity of remote working globally. With businesses having to quickly pivot and introduce working from home policies, it has definitely changed the world of working.
What Is Remote Working?
You are probably very familiar with the terms WFH and remote working, but they are not the same thing. Unlike working from home remote working gives you the flexibility to work from anywhere under the sun. You aren’t just restricted to working from your home. So this could mean you are working from a café in Australia, a co-working space in the nearest city, or even on the go whilst you are travelling.
Many modem firms such as Zapier and Modern Tribe Inc. are really pushing remote working, and it is becoming a new cult. With high-end technological developments and general awareness of new technologies increasing, having an online presence has become easy. Zoom is just one of the tools we have all become extremely familiar with. It has revolutionised the way in which we bridge communication gaps.
Evolution of Remote Working
Long gone are the days of employees being stuck in high-end board rooms! Many businesses are looking to reduce overheads and moving to smaller office premises and putting remote working procedures into place. Once the realisation hit that actually, their staff could still work productively from the comfort of their own home, it has completely changed the way in which business owners are thinking. Whilst we have been stuck within the same four walls for over a year now, we have all proven that it can be done.
The main advantage of remote working is that employees have higher job satisfaction. They are given the freedom and trust to work the hours they like, where they like, to fit around their lifestyle. That means that the hours they do work are much likely to be more productive. Let’s have a quick look at the different types of remote working which are trending at the moment:
1. Co-working spaces – rather than working out of a local cafe, co-working spaces started to pop up everywhere. They offer comfort, flexibility, and lots of opportunities to collaborate with other professionals.
2. Gigging/freelancing – creative professionals are turning to gigging/freelancing around their normal working hours in order to grow their own business as a side hustle.
3. Travel working – living the life of a ‘digital nomad’, this is the notion where people travel the world whilst still staying connected to work via high-speed internet.
4. Shorter weeks – everyone has heard of the ‘4 hour work week’, but a trend that has started to evolve recently is when people work four days a week to their optimum capacity, rather than 5 days at a less productive rate.
The Future of Remote Working
In the corporate world, more and more employers are gearing up to continue allowing their staff to work remotely. This last year has proven that as long as the correct policies and procedures are in place, remote working is possible. Trial and error have played a massive part in how businesses have responded to COVID-19. However, there are lots of positive things to take away from this experience.
Virtual offices have also increased in popularity in recent times. Many new start-up businesses have realised the importance of having a physical office address in order to attract clients. While they are able to work from anywhere in the world, knowing that their mail is taken care of, and their phone calls can be answered if needs be can be extremely useful.
